RIVERHEAD, N.Y. -- The Felician College men's golf team shaved 22 strokes off of its team score from Friday to Saturday, but settled for a 16th place finish out of 17 teams to begin its 2012-13 season at the Dowling College September Shootout at Long Island National Golf Course.
Freshman Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa.) headlined the Felician contingent, firing an 81 on Friday and coming back with a 79 on Saturday for a 18-over-par total of 160. Geesey tied for 37th place out of 87 competitors.
Felician sat in 16th place after posting a 351 on Friday. Despite carding a 329 on Saturday, the Golden Falcons could not gain any ground on the field, finishing 13 shots behind 15th-place Holy Family University, and 20 ahead of Nassau Community College in 17th.
A 78 from senior Barry Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J.) on Saturday was Felician's best individual round of the weekend. Tsouhnikas's two-day total of 167 was good for second on the Golden Falcons and a tie for 58th among the field.
Also playing for Felician werre sophomore Christopher Davis (Rockford, Ill.) (T-77th, 91-86-177), freshman Kevin Berdnik (Clifton, N.J.) (T-81st, 94-86-180), and junior Chris Zito (South Hackensack, N.J.) (83rd, 90-92-182).
Adelphi University and host Dowling College tied for the team championship, each with two-day totals of 612. Adelphi's Ryan Snouffer was the medalist with a one-over-par 71-72-143.
