GUILDERLAND, N.Y. – The Felician College men's golf team placed ninth out of 12 schools at the College of Saint Rose Fall Shootout, held Friday and Saturday at Pinehaven Country Club.
Felician totaled 333 as a team on Friday, with all five of its starters carding between 81 and 88 strokes on the 6,496-yard par-71. The Golden Falcons sat in a three-way tie for eighth place after Day 1.
Led by a 75 from junior Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) on Saturday, Felician shaved four strokes for a 329 and a two-day total of 662. The Golden Falcons were one shot back of eighth-place Saint Anselm College and 11 ahead of Saint Michael's College in 10th. Felician also defeated Dominican (N.Y.) College (684) and Sage College (725).
Geesey was the only Golden Falcon to finish in the top half of the field. His 83-75-158 tied him for 26th place out of 66 entrants. For the first time this season, freshman Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) was Felician's No. 2 man. Bekefi turned in an 81 on Friday and 86 on Saturday; his 167 was tied for 40th. Right behind was sophomore Justin Rasmus (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) in a tie for 43rd (84-84-168)
Completing the Golden Falcon scoring were freshman Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) (49th, 88-84-172) and junior Kevin Berdnik (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) (56th, 85-93-178).
Southern New Hampshire University topped a tight scoreboard, winning the event with 303-304-607. The Penmen were five shots better than runner-up Franklin Pierce University and six ahead of the host Golden Knights. SNHU's Jake Nutter was the medalist with a four-over-par total of 73-73-146.
