OCEAN VIEW, Del. – Senior Chris Zito (South Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) posted his season-best 36-hole score, but the Felician College men's golf team settled for eighth place at the Bear Trap Dunes Invitational, hosted by Dowling College on Saturday and Sunday at the Bear Trap Dunes Golf Course.
Sophomore Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) was Felician's top scorer, shooting an 84 on each day of the event for a 24-over-par 168. Geesey tied for 35th place out of 51 entrants.
Freshman Justin Rasmus (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) placed 44th, scoring an 89 on Saturday before improving to 84 on Sunday on the 6,950-yard course. He was followed closely by Zito in 45th (90-85-175).
Rounding out the Golden Falcon line-up were sophomore Kevin Berdnik (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) (49th, 100-97-197) and senior Tim Gonzalez (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) (50th, 172-148-320).
Felician's team score on Saturday was 363. The Golden Falcons improved to 350 on Sunday, but they could not make up any ground in the team standings, finishing 43 shots back of seventh-place Dominican (N.Y.) College.
Wilmington (Del.) University won the tournament with a +32 total of 608 (300-308), seven strokes clear of runner-up Bentley University. American International College freshman Miguel Siercke was the medalist with an even-par 144 (75-69).
Felician next competes at the one-day Griffin Invitational, hosted by Chestnut Hill Collge on Mar. 25.
