KEENE, N.H. – Felician College junior Kevin Berdnik (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) established personal collegiate bests for 18 and 36 holes as the Golden Falcon men's golf team opened its 2014-15 season at the Franklin Pierce University Fall Invitational on Monday at Bretwood Golf Course.
The tournament format called for two rounds in one day, starting at 8 p.m. Berdnik fired a personal-best 76 in Round 1 on the par-72, 6.976-yard course. He followed up with an 81 for a score of 157 for the event. He was the only Felician player to place in the top half of the field, tying for 24th out of 50 entrants.
Each team is able to enter an official line-up of five players, with the top four scores each round counting for the team total. The Golden Falcons ended up with identical scores of 330 each round, and their 660 left them in ninth place out of nine full teams. They were 28 strokes behind eighth-place Post University. Felician and the Eagles were the only Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference members in the field.
Felician junior Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) shot 84 in the morning before rebounding for a 77 in the afternoon. His 17-over-par total of 161 tied for 33rd place. Right behind in a tie for 35th was sophomore Justin Rasmus (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) with 81-82-163.
Also in the Golden Falcon line-up were freshmen Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) (49th, 89-90-179) and Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) (50th, 93-91-184).
Bentley University won the tournament with a 301-289-590. Bentley's Brett Chatfield and Jake Nutter of Southern New Hampshire University tied for medalist honors, both shooting 72-71-143 (-1).
