READING, Pa. – Felician College sophomore Jessica Zalewski (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) was selected to the all-tournament team of the Kutztown University Women's Bowling Fall Baker Invitational, held on Saturday at Berks Lanes. The event was the first tournament of 2015-16 for the Golden Falcons, who began the second season in program history.
In the rare Baker-only event, Zalewski posted a Baker-frame average of 19.96, third-best among all competitors. Ashley Howe of Saint Francis (Pa.) University was named the tournament Most Valuable Player with a 20.69 average.
The tournament format called for six head-to-head matches, each one consisting of five Baker games. The Golden Falcons opened the season by setting a school-record for a five-game Baker set when they defeated No. 16 nationally-ranked St. Francis College-Brooklyn, 965-927. However, they settled for a 2-4 dual record, with their only other victory coming in Match 5, 740-642, against Daemen College.
For the day, Felician felled 4,591 pins, an average of 153.0. That total placed it 11th out of 17 schools in the team standings. The Golden Falcons were 73 pins back of Mount Aloysius College for a spot in the top 10.
No. 14-ranked LIU-Brooklyn finished first in the team results with 5,616 pins (187.2 average). The Blackbirds were one of only two teams to go unbeaten in dual matches, joining No. 22 Adelphi University. Felician did not face Adelphi, but was defeated by LIU-Brooklyn, 963-689, in Match 2.
In a Baker game, a team submits a line-up of five players. The leadoff bowler bowls the first and sixth frames, the No. 2 player shoots the second and seventh, and so on to the No. 5, or "anchor," who competes in the fifth and 10th frames.
