WALLINGFORD, Conn. – Sophomore right-hander Jessica Zalewski (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) finished 13th out of 39 entrants, averaging 186.0 for four games, to highlight Felician College's trip to the Sacred Heart University Bowl for the Cure Invite, held on Saturday at Wallingford Lanes.
Zalewski also finished second in an unofficial singles bracket held after the five NCAA traditional team matches.
Felician was fifth out of five schools in Saturday's team standings, toppling 4,043 pins for an average of 161.7. Franklin Pierce University felled the most pins (4,960), but Kutztown University was declared the winner of the event by posting a 3-1 won-loss record and defeating the host Pioneers, who were also 3-1.
With an odd number of teams, each team bowled five matches, but one was against a bye. Felician's bye came in Match 2, after it had defeated Caldwell University, 811-715. The Golden Falcons' final three dual match decisions went against them, as they fell, 915-895 to Kutztown, 901-768 against Franklin Pierce, and 904-797 versus Sacred Heart. Felician's 1-3 record on the day left it at 4-11 for the season.
No Golden Falcon started all five matches, but Zalewski, who fired a team-high 223 in Match 2, was one of three Felician bowlers to begin four. Sophomore Dana-Marie Laloo (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) shot 646 on the day (161.5 average) and finished 18th, while classmate Kristin Natoli (Freehold, N.J./Howell) posted a 565 (141.2 average) and placed 21st.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Stapleton (Washington Township, N.J./Westwood Regional), who started two matches, shot a 217 in Match 3. Her 351 pins put her in 26th place.
In the singles bracket, Zalewski won three games before losing to Abby Rossi of Sacred Heart, 198-129, in the title match.
