SMYRNA, Del. – Freshman Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) shot a season-best 83 to top the Felician College men's golf team during the Goldey-Beacom College Spring Invitational on Monday at Garrisons Lake Golf Course. Capone was the Golden Falcons' low man for the first time in his career.
In a tightly contested event, Felician's team score of 336 placed it ninth, one shot back of eighth-place Chestnut Hill College. Just 27 strokes separated all nine teams in the field.
Capone tied for 28th place out of 55 entrants. Teammates Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown) and Justin Rasmus (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) each carded an 84 on the par-72, 7,060-yard course. Both players were part of a 32nd-place tie. Felician freshman Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) tied for 38th with an 85.
Wilmington (Del.) University won the tournament with a 309. The Wildcats finished five shots ahead of runner-up West Chester University. Medalist Andreas Lunding of Wilmington was the only player to break par, completing the course in 71 strokes.
Felician plays another one-day event, the Griffin Invitational hosted by Chestnut Hill College, on Tuesday.
