Men's Golf Battles Conditions At All-CACC Charger Challenge

SUFFERN, N.Y. – Felician University sophomore Justin Keiser (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) tied for 15th place out of 50 competitors, highlighting the Golden Falcons' two-day stay at the Charger Challenge men's golf tournament, hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College on Friday and Saturday at Spook Rock Golf Course.

All eight teams in the field were members of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The entrants battled tough playing conditions on both days, with a steady rain increasing in intensity throughout the day on Friday followed by an overcast, misty Saturday.

Felician shot 338 on Day 1 and was in seventh place, but slipped to eighth after a 333 on Day 2.

Keiser, who played to an 85.40 scoring average as a freshman in 2015-16, has broken 80 in all four of his rounds this season. He led the Golden Falcons both days this weekend, shooting 78-79-157 on the par-72, 6,806-yard course. He was the only Felician player to finish in the top half of the field. Freshman Jake Storako (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional) fired 83-83-166 (+22) and tied for 31st place.

Felician juniors Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) each totaled 174 for 36 holds and tied for 43rd place. Bekefi shot 86 on Friday and 88 on Saturday, while Capone carded rounds of 91 and 83. Sophomore Hunter Thompson (Waymart, Pa./Honesdale) turned in 92-91-183 and finished 48th.

Felician finished 12 strokes behind seventh-place Philadelphia University, which improved from 341 on Day 1 to 318 on Day 2. Concordia (N.Y.) College (312-292-604, +28) won the tournament, and Concordia's Mark Kilpatrick was the medalist with a one-over-par total of 145 (76-69).
