Golfers Finish 10th In Competitive Post Eagles Field

WATERTOWN, Conn. – The Felician University men's golf team put together the fifth-best 36-hole team score in the 12-year history of its program, a 634, but settled for 10th place out of 11 schools at the Post University Eagles Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Watertown Golf Course.

Felician posted a 320 on Monday but was mired in 10th place. Despite improving to 314 on Tuesday, the Golden Falcons could not make up any ground on the field. Felician was one stroke behind ninth-place Assumption College, and just six shots back of seventh place.

Felician junior Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) enjoyed the best performance of his collegiate career. He matched his career low of 78 on Day 1 of the tournament, then fired the same score on Day 2 for a collegiate best 36-hole event score of 156.

Golden Falcon freshman Jake Storako (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional) also carded a 156 for the tournament, although via a less direct route. On the par-71, 6,603-yard course, Storako recorded a round of 81 on Monday before coming back to shoot 75 on Tuesday. Capone and Storako were among a tie for 28th place out of 73 competitors.

Junior Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) turned in 80s on each day of the tournament and tied for 47th place. Golden Falcon sophomore Justin Keiser (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) shot matching 81s and tied for 52nd.

Felician's No. 5 man, sophomore Hunter Thompson (Waymart, Pa./Honesdale), finished in a tie for 57th place with 83-86-169. The Golden Falcons were sixth out of seven Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference members in attendance.

Wilmington (Del.) University's 24-over-par total of 297-295-592 was good enough to win the tournament by two shots over a trio of runners-up. Kevin Gately of St. Thomas Aquinas College was the medalist and the only player in the field to break par, carding 70-71-141.
