ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Felician University men's golf team came within one stroke of the best 36-hole team score in program history when it shot 616 at the Red Hawk Fall Invitational, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College on Sunday and Monday at Ridgemont Country Club. The tournament was the final one of the fall season for Felician.
Felician shot 305 on Sunday, the second-best single-round total in school history, and came back with a 311 on a colder, windier Monday. The only better team performance over a 36-hole tournament came earlier this season, when the Golden Falcons shot 615 at the Franklin Pierce University Fall Invitational.
Felician was bested by the host Red Hawks in the three-team event. Roberts Wesleyan shot two strokes under par on Sunday, a 286, before firing 299 on Monday for a tournament score of 585 (+9). The Golden Falcons finished eight shots ahead of third-place Daemen College (314-310-624),
Golden Falcon junior Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) produced a +7 total of 151 (76-75) and finished sixth out of 20 individual entrants. Classmate Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) (74-79-153) tied for eighth place, and Felician freshman Jake Storako (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional) (76-78) tied for 10th.
Felician received a 161 (82-79, 17th) from sophomore Justin Keiser (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport). Sophomore Hunter Thompson (Waymart, Pa./Honesdale) was Felician's No. 4 scorer on Sunday with 79 before slipping to a 90 on Monday.
Roberts Wesleyan claimed the top five finishers. The Red Hawks' Tom Kolb was the medalist (70-72-142, -2).
Through the fall season, Storako leads Felician in scoring average with a 78.40 over 10 rounds. Keiser is averaging 78.90.
