Women's Bowling Finishes Ninth In Kutztown Traditional Event

READING, Pa. – The Felician University women's bowling team concluded the first weekend of its 2017-18 season by competing in its second consecutive one-day event, the Bud Whitman Memorial Traditional tournament, hosted by Kutztown University on Sunday at Berks Lanes.

After struggling to a 16th-place finish in Baker play on Saturday at the same site, Felician rebounded on Sunday to finish ninth out of 18 schools in traditional team action. Sunday's tournament format called for five traditional matches, and the final standings were determined by total pinfall.

Individually, three Golden Falcons started all five matches. Senior Heather Androvich (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) shot 943 (188.6 average) and finished 25th. Androvich fired Felician's high game of the day, a 222 in a Match 5 victory over No. 25 nationally-ranked Duquesne University.

Sophomore Nicole Aumack (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) also shot 943. Aumack began her day with a 202 in a loss to No. 14-ranked St. Francis (Pa.) University, and ended it with a 215 versus Duquesne. Senior Jessica Zalewski (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) totaled 904 (180.8 average), including a 218 during a loss to Youngstown State University. She finished 37th. 120 bowlers started at least one game.

Teamwise, the Golden Falcons knocked down 4,528 pins for a 181.8 average. They were 18 pins back of eighth-place Franklin Pierce University, and nine ahead of Saint Francis College-Brooklyn in 10th.

Felician went 3-2 in dual matches on the day to improve its record to 4-5 on the young season. In addition to Duquesne, the Golden Falcons earned wins over Wilmington (Del.) University (907-816) and Saint Peter's College (846-754).

No. 12 Delaware State University won the tournament with 5,122 pins (204.9 average). The Hornets outscored runner-up and 16th-ranked LIU Brooklyn by 123 pins. Adelphi University senior Rebecca Gotterbarn was the individual champion, posting a five-game score of 1,133 (226.6).

Felician competes in another one-day event, the Sacred Heart University Bowl for the Cure, on Saturday in Wallingford, Conn. Its first three-day tournament comes on Nov. 3-5 – the Fairleigh Dickinson University New Jersey Jamboree in Stratford.
