Men's Golf Opens Spring Season At Wintry GBC Invitational

OCEAN VIEW, Del. – The Felician University men's golf team opened the spring portion of its 2016-17 season in wintry conditions on Saturday and Sunday at the Goldey-Beacom College Spring Invitational, staged at the Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club.

With temperatures in the mid- to high 30s on each day, Felician finished fourth in a field of six teams. After a 343 on Saturday, the Golden Falcons improved to 320 on Sunday, but could do little to improve their placement in the tournament.

Felician freshman Jake Storako (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional) missed the top 10 by one stroke. Storako settled for a tie for 11th place out of 35 individual entrants with 156 for 36 holes. Storako carded a 79 on Day 1, and came back with 77 on Sunday on the 6,846-yard par-72.

Storako was the only Golden Falcon to place in the top half of the field. Junior Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) improved from 88 on Saturday to 78 on Sunday to tie for 23rd place with 166. Sophomore Justin Keiser (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) was a steady +25 with 84-85-169 and placed 28th, and right behind in 29th was junior Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) (92-80-172).

Felician finished 23 strokes behind third place Goldey-Beacom, and was 45 ahead of Adelphi University in fifth.

Wilmington (Del.) University claimed the championship with 312-304-616 (+40), nine shots better than runner-up Dominican (N.Y.) College. Wilmington's Freddy Braun shot 75-77-152 to earn medalist honors.
