Men's Golf Is Second By Two Shots At Charger Spring Classic

MONROE, N.Y. – The Felician University men's golf team placed three players among the top 10 finishers at the Spring Charger Classic, hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College on Saturday at the Golf Club at Mansion Ridge. As a team, the Golden Falcons finished second out of four complete teams, missing the tournament crown by two strokes.

The tournament was originally scheduled as a 36-hole, seven-team event. Friday's scheduled opening round, however, was cancelled by heavy rain. Two teams elected not to continue into Saturday, while another played as an incomplete squad.

Freshman and No. 1 player Jake Storako (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional) led the way for Felician on Saturday, carding a four-over-par 76 on the 6,889-yard course. Storako finished in third place individually, three strokes behind medalist Elliot Wakefield of Nyack College, and two back of runner-up Tom Holmes, also from Nyack.

Five players turned in sub-80 rounds. Golden Falcon sophomore Justin Keiser (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) shot exactly 80 and tied for sixth place out of the 25 entrants. An 82 from junior Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) was good for 10th place, and junior Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) tied for 18th with a round of 85.

Host Dominican won the tournament with a team score of 321, edging out Felician's 323.
