Men's Golf Has Up-And-Down Start To Season

KEENE, N.H. – The Felician University men's golf team began its 2017-18 season by competing in the Franklin Pierce University Fall Invitational on Sunday and Monday at Keene Country Club.

The veteran Felician contingent experienced an up-and-down weekend in the 10-team tournament. Individually, the Golden Falcons broke 80 only once on the 6,520-yard par-72, with senior Chris Bekefi's (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) 79 on Monday proving to be his team's best round of the tournament.

Bekefi was the only Felician player to finish in the top half of the field. His 16-over-par total of 160 (81-79) tied him for 29th place out of 60 competitors.

Sophomore Jake Storako (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional) shot 86 on Sunday but improved to 81 on Monday. He finished in 48th place with his 36-hole score of 167. Also in the Golden Falcon line-up were junior Justin Keiser (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) (T-49th, 82-87-169) and senior Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) (T-52nd, 82-88-170).

The Golden Falcons' team score of 331 on Sunday left them in eighth place after the first day of competition. However, after only following up with a 335 on Monday, Felician was passed in the team standings by Adelphi University (316 on Monday) and Saint Michael's College (315) and settled for 10th. The Golden Falcons (666) ended up nine strokes behind ninth-place Saint Michael's.

Southern New Hampshire University won the tournament with an 18-over-par score of 594 (298-296). The Penmen carded a score four shots better than runner-up and event host Franklin Pierce. SNHU junior Sam Reimer claimed medalist honors, firing even-par 144 (72-72).
