Bowlers Post Winning Record At Sacred Heart Bowl For The Cure

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Felician University women's bowling posted a 3-2 dual-match record during the Sacred Heart University Bowl For The Cure Baker Invitational, hosted by the Pioneers on Sunday at Nutmeg Bowl

The tournament field contained 10 teams. The format called for four five-game Baker matches with pairings determined by random draw. The teams were then seeded for a position round consisting of one more five-game Baker match to determine the final standings.

Felician split the opening four matches, with victories over Bloomfield College and Wagner College sandwiching setbacks to a pair of nationally-ranked squads – No. 23 Long Island University, and the No. 12-ranked hosts. However, to that point, the Golden Falcons had averaged 163.2 per Baker game, with their pinfall total of 3,264 leaving them in ninth place. Felician rode the momentum of its 887-776 victory over Wagner to top Bloomfield once again in the position round, 899-755, to secure its hold on ninth place for the event. The final two scores were easily the Golden Falcons' best of the day.

Senior Natalie Swindell (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) bowled "anchor" (6th and 10th frames) during all five matches for Felician. During the final two victories, sophomore Aniesa Grabowski (Childs, Pa./Lakeland) settled into the leadoff spot in the lineup, and was followed by freshman Allanagh Dambroski (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) and junior Madelyn Weston (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro Horsham). Freshman Sandra Hornor (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) spend the last two matches bowling the fourth and ninth frames setting up Swindell.

No. 25-ranked Adelphi University earned the championship by defeated Sacred Heart, 1007-966, during the position round. The Pioneers, LIU and No. 19 Monmouth University all went 4-1 on the day.

A portion of each team's entry fee was donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in New York, N.Y.

Felician is next in action in the Dezy Strong Classic, hosted by Adelphi, on Oct. 29-31. It will be the Golden Falcons' first three-day event since Feb. 28-Mar. 1, 2020.
