NEW CASTLE, Del. – Felician University began its eighth season of intercollegiate women's bowling on Saturday by competing in the Baker half of the Bud Whitman Memorial, hosted by Chestnut Hill College at Bowlerama
The Golden Falcons placed fifth out of six teams in the final standings. Felician went 1-4 in its dual matches, all contested under the five-game Baker format.
Senior Natalie Swindell (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) led the Golden Falcons with a frame average of 18.15 on the day. Classmate Jenn Ingulli (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) posted a 17.00 figure. As a team, Felician averaged 160.4 for its 25 Baker games.
The season got off to a difficult start, as Felician averaged a combined 142.3 in losses to Wilmington (Del.) University and Caldwell University. The Golden Falcons then produced their first dual victory of the season by an 844-769 count over the host Griffins.
A narrow 838-819 loss to Kutztown University followed. The Golden Falcons ended the day with their best score – a 939, which included a 244 in Game 3. But Felician ran into a Mount St. Mary's University squad which turned a 1,037, the high score of the day.
Mount St. Mary's went 5-0 for the event and led all teams with 4,844 pins – a 193.8 average.
Felician returns to Bowlerama on Sunday to compete in the traditional play half of the Bud Whitman Memorial tournament. Competition begins at 9 a.m.
