Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Graduate guard Katelyn Andres (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) scored a career-high 25 points and added six rebounds to lead Felician University to an 85-65 non-conference women's basketball victory over the visiting University of Bridgeport on Tuesday night at Job Gymnasium.

Felician (4-4) earned its fourth consecutive victory following an 0-4 start to the season. The Golden Falcons are riding their longest winning streak since a five-game stretch in January of 2014. Felician, which matched its win total for all of 2019-20 – its last full season -- topped Bridgeport for the first time in the teams' last six meetings.

Andres was 11 for 19 from the field, including 3 of 6 from three-point range. Her effort was backed by freshman guard Mimmi Hahne (Sollentuna, Sweden/BG Lulea) who registered season highs of 16 points and five assists. Felician received identical double-doubles of 15 points and 10 rebounds from junior center Aisha Traore (Bronx, N.Y./Adlai Stevenson) and sophomore swing player Briana Lee (Jersey City, N.J/Irvington).

The Golden Falcons, who never trailed, jumped out to leads of 7-0 and 17-5. Bridgeport closed the gap to 21-16 at the end of the first period, then saw Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) convert a layup to start the second for a three-point deficit. But ahead by that same margin, 23-20, Felician closed the half with a 16-3 run over the final 7 ½ minutes to carry a 16-point bulge into the intermission.

Graduate guard Samirah Henderson (Rahway, N.J./Monroe CC) led the Purple Knights on another comeback attempt. Henderson tallied 18 third-quarter points as Bridgeport came as close as 51-46 with 3:22 left in the quarter. But out of a timeout, Damia Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Joseph) scored on Felician's next possession, and Hahne and Lee followed with buckets. The hosts maintained a 60-52 edge heading into the game's final 10 minutes.

Lee and Traore began the fourth quarter with layups, and Bridgeport never came closer than a nine-point deficit the rest of the way. The Golden Falcons slowly pulled away and held their largest advantage, 82-61, following an Andres three-pointer with 2:35 to play.

Henderson, who spend much of the night in foul trouble, netted 23 points in 22 minutes to lead the Purple Knights (3-4). McBride had 10 points and 13 rebounds and Janiece Loney (Herndon, Va./Harford CC) added 10 points and four assists for Bridgeport. Felician's Jordan amassed seven points, four rebounds and three blocks in nine minutes.

Andres is in her first season with the Golden Falcons after having previously played for fellow CACC member Post University. Her career high in scoring with the Eagles was 20 points.

Felician travels to Manchester, N.H, to face regionally-ranked Saint Anselm College in non-league action on Friday at 6 p.m.
