Swindell Breaks Bowling Team Record, Hornor Fires 278 At Wildcat Invitational

NEW CASTLE, Del. – Senior right-hander Natalie Swindell (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) set the Felician University women's bowling record for an individual traditional five-game series and freshman righty Sandra Hornor (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) set a school freshman record with a 278 game to highlight Felician's trip to the Wildcat Division II/Division III Invitational, hosted by Wilmington (Del.) University on Friday through Sunday at Bowlerama.

The 10-team event began on Friday with five 5-game Baker matches, followed by five traditional team matches on Saturday, with pairings determined by random draw. The schools were then seeded into a playoff bracket based on total pinfall for Sunday's three best-of-7 Baker playoff matches, which determined the final standings.

Felician averaged 189.7 per traditional game on Saturday, as compared to 176.2 per Baker game on Friday and Sunday. Swindell led the way with a 1097, rolling games of 201-190-215-255-236. Her score was good for third place in the event and a spot on the All-Tournament team. She surpassed the previous Golden Falcon record of 1078 by Kristen Keller at Sacred Heart University on Oct. 21, 2017.

Hornor's five-game total of 1048 ranks fourth in program annals and was good for seventh place in the tournament. Her scorecard showed games of 195-278-160-205-210. She fell one pin short of the school single game record. Jenn Ingulli shot 279 during the 2019 Northeast Season Ender, hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University. Junior Madelyn Weston (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) placed 23rd of 56, felling 927 pins over her five matches.

The Golden Falcons were 6-7 in dual matches over the weekend, and ended up seventh in the final standings. Felician sat eighth after Friday's Baker play, and vaulted to sixth following Saturday's traditional competition. But the Golden Falcons dropped their first two matches in Sunday's playoff bracket, to Molloy College and to No. 25 nationally-ranked Kutztown University. They recovered for a 4-3 victory over Chestnut Hill College in the seventh-place match, capturing Game 7, 187-173.

Daemen College defeated Caldwell University in a five-frame roll-off, 118-76, in Sunday's championship match to claim the tournament title. Daemen joined Mercyhurst University with event-best 9-4 dual match records for the weekend.

Felician (42-52) saw its record fall to 23-24 during the spring semester. The Golden Falcons compete for the fifth consecutive weekend when they travel to Hamilton, N.J., on Feb. 25-27, for the Hawk Flight Invite, hosted by Monmouth University.
