EMERSON, N.J. – Felician University freshman Kristian O'Grady (Thiells, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) shot a season-best 79 and junior teammate Gonzalo Maldonado Felices (Almeria, Spain/Stella Maris) also produced a round of 79 as the Golden Falcons finished in eighth place at the Charger Challenge men's golf tournament, hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College on Tuesday at Solder Hill Golf Club.
The nine-team event was originally scheduled for 36 holes. However, Monday's round was cancelled due to cold temperatures. Felician produced a team score of 331 on Tuesday to finish 12 strokes behind seventh-place Adelphi University and two ahead of the College of Saint Rose in ninth.
O'Grady and Maldonado Felices tied for 21st place out of 48 individual entrants, and were the only Golden Falcons among the top half of the field. Sophomore James Surovcik (Philadelphia, Pa./New Mexico Military Academy) signed for 85 and finished 42nd. Rounding out the Felician lineup were sophomore Dylan Molloy (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) (88, 47th) and freshman Brandon Mudrick (Hamburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley) (99, 48th).
The top four teams were within four strokes of each other, with St. Thomas Aquinas College topping the host Chargers, 298-299, for the tournament championship. Post University's Ethan Phillips took medalist honors, carding a 69 on the par-71, 6,949-yard layout.
Felician is next in action on Apr. 4-5 at the Dr. Edwin Cottrell Invitational, to be hosted by West Chester University.
