DELHI, N.Y. – Redshirt junior Gonzalo Maldonado Felices (Almeria, Spain/Stella Maris) tied the Felician University single-round record by shooting 70 during the SUNY Delhi Bronco Tournament on Friday at The College Course at Delhi.
Maldonado Felices was the medalist in the three-team, 21-player event, winning a tournament for the first time in his career. He eclipsed par by one stroke on the par-71, 6,459-yard course. The round was his second 70 as a college player; he shares the Golden Falcon record with Joe Peters.
Later Friday evening, Maldonado Felices found out that he had qualified as an individual for the 2022 NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championship tournament. Friday's round was after the cutoff date and did not factor into the selection. The regional event is May 5-7 in Victor, N.Y.
Other than Maldonado Felices, the Golden Falcons concluded their 2021-22 season on Friday. They placed third in the event with a team score of 323. The College of Saint Rose signed for a 304, and the host Broncos shot 313.
Freshman Kristian O'Grady (Thiells, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) tied for ninth place with an 81. Sophomores Dylan Molloy (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) and James Surovcik (Philadelphia, Pa./New Mexico Military Academy) fired matching 86s and tied for 15th, and freshman Brandon Mudrick (Hamburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley) was 21st with a 97.
