WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Redshirt junior Gonzalo Maldonado Felices (Almeria, Spain/Stella Maris) was the only member of the Felician University men's golf team to break 80 at the Dr. Edwin Cottrell Invitational, hosted by West Chester University on Monday and Tuesday at Penn Oaks Golf Club.
Maldonado Felices carded an 82 for Monday's opening round on the par-71, 6,653-yard layout. However he came back with a 78 on Tuesday for an 18-over-par tournament score of 160. Maldonado Felices finished 36th out of 69 entrants.
As a team Felician finished in 13th place, totaling 354-344—698. The Golden Falcons ended up 53 strokes behind 12th-place Bloomsburg University.
Felician freshman Kristian O'Grady (Thiells, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) placed 61st with rounds of 88 and 85 to total 173 strokes. Rounding out the Felician lineup were sophomore transfer James Surovcik (Philadelphia, Pa./New Mexico Military Academy) (T-65th, 92-88—180), sophomore Dylan Molloy (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) (68th, 95-93—188), and freshman Brandon Mudrick (Hamburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley) (69th, 92-98—190).
Indiana University of Pennsylvania captured the championship of the 13-team tournament, producing rounds of 299 on Monday and 301 on Tuesday for a total of 600. The host Golden Rams tied with Goldey-Beacom College for the runner-up spot, each at 603. IUP's Jackson Buccigross took medalist honors, recording 71-72—143 (+1).
Felician concludes its 2021-22 season with a trip to Jamesville, N.Y., for the Le Moyne College Spring Shootout on Apr. 9-10.
