RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Felician women's basketball hosted their final home match before the new year and welcomed #17 Pace University to JJJ Gymnasium Friday night. In the event, the Golden Falcons held the lead going into the final stanza, but a three-point show out by the Setters halted the hosts and handed them the 44-56 loss.
Ane Valle (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain) and
Katie Ritchie (Mentone, Victoria, Australia) led the charge for the Lady Falcons with double digit points and Valle posted her first collegiate career double-double.
Here's What Happened:
- The Setters were on the board first with a trey and opened the contest with a 5-2 run. Felician was able to catch up to the opposers to take the 6-5 lead on a Ritchie jumper, but was held to six points for the remainder of the quarter, 6-11.
- In the second, no team recorded a point until three-minutes in at 7:17 when Pace added onto their lead, 14-6. Valle broke the cold streak for the Lady Falcons, 8-14, but the Setters went to go onto see their largest lead thus far in the contest at 14 when they held the 8-22 advantage.
- Erica Egan (Dublin, Ireland) and Valle shoved the deficit to single digit points with a combined five,15-22, and was able to enter intermission with trailing by 10, 17-27.
- The highest scoring quarter for the green-and-gold was in the third as they out scored the Setters, 19-8. Ritchie was able to secure a jumper from the mid-range to slash the Pace lead to four and after another Setter bucket, Valle made it a one point game, 34-35.
- In 2-minutes both teams went cold as Felician missed a trey and the Setters missed three. On the final three point attempt by Pace, Aisha Traore (Bronx, N.Y.) grabbed the rebound and found Mar Vidal (Tona, Spain) who tossed the ball across the court for Ritchie for a buzzer attempt to gain the lead, 36-35, going into the final stanza.
- Much like how the Golden Falcons held the Setters to eight in the third, Pace flipped the script and held Felician to the same amount of eight points as they went on to score 21 for the 44-56 win and the green-and-gold's loss.
Box Score Insights:
- Valle led the offensive charge with 14 points and 10 rebounds for her first collegiate career double-double, while Ritchie had 12 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
