WILMINGTON, D.E. - Felician women's basketball traveled to Delaware for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up with Goldey-Beacom College Saturday afternoon.
After holding a 15-point lead in the third quarter, the Lightning battled back to take the lead 54-55 with only a few seconds remaining. After a quick green-and-gold timeout, the Golden Falcons found standout freshman,
Ane Valle (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain), for a layup and secured the 56-55 victory.
Here's What Happened:
- As the conference event commenced, Felician handled the lead for the entire first half of play ending the first and second quarter holding the 14-6 and 28-20 respective leads.
- In the third quarter, the Golden Falcons featured their largest lead of the contest of 15 when Mar Vidal (Tona, Spain) netted a bucket from behind the arc, 36-22. From there the hosts activated come back mode and went on a 14-0 run to slash the green-and-gold lead to a point, 37-36.
- The final seconds of the third had three lead changes with the Golden Falcons securing the final point on an Aisha Traore (Bronx, N.Y.) layup, 41-40.
- During the final stanza, Felician increased their advantage once again to edge the Lightning on points by Vidal,Uzor Uchidiuno (Toronta, Canada), Valle, Adriana Perez (Galapagar, Madrid, Spain), and Traore, 52-46.
- Later on, the score was flipped with only eight seconds remaining in the contest when a Lightning player captured a clutch trey for the one point lead, 54-55. Head Coach Steve Fagan called an immediate 30-second timeout to concoct a game plan that led Valle to the backed for the final second layin and the victory, 56-55.
Box Score Insights:
- Valle paved the way with 18 points while also tallying two steals and two assists. Vidal was second on the team with 12 points, going 2-4 from three, and had four assists.
- Traore dominated the boards with 11 rebounds and recorded seven points while Perez snagged four steals.
- The green-and-gold presented their best performance this season going 50% from the long range (4-8).. They also shot 48% from the field.
- Felician out-rebounded the hosts 39-21 and forced 17 Lightning turnovers.
Women's Basketball (6-12 / 6-3 CACC) will be back in action on Jan. 31 when they visit Caldwell University in looks to secure the season sweep with the Cougars at 5:30pm.
