Rutherford, NJ – After defeating Lincoln in the Title IX Challenge on Friday morning at John Jay College, the Felician Women's Basketball team returned to Rutherford for their home opener against Puerto Rico-Bayamon. The Golden Falcons once again came out victorious, defeating the visiting Cowgirls by a score of 73-60.
Felician took control from the jump, taking a 10-point lead after one quarter of play. The Golden Falcons were highly efficient from the floor, knocking down 69.2% of their shots over the first 10 minutes of action.
Puerto Rico-Bayamon would challenge, using the second and third quarters to cut the Golden Falcons lead. With 8:23 remaining in the game, the Cowgirls took their first lead of the afternoon, one that wouldn't last very long.
A minute later, Katherine Ritchie tied the game up with a made free throw, and from that point, the Golden Falcons regained control of the game.
Ritchie led the offensive charge for the Golden Falcons, scoring 11 of her game-high 21 points over the final 7:22 of regulation to help seal the victory.
To compliment Ritchie's strong performance, Ane Valle recorded a double-double, finishing the game with 20 points to go along with 11 rebounds and four assists. Freshman Stephanie Formby scored in double-figures while Deviney Jackson, Noella Biduaya and Adriana Perez made some very timely baskets for the Golden Falcons.
After winning on back-to-back days, the Felician Women's Basketball program will get the day off on Sunday before their non-conference battle with Bowie State University on Monday morning in Bowie, Maryland.
