SOUTHAMPTON, P.A. - Felician women's bowling competed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament on Mar. 22-23 at Pike Lanes in Southampton, P.A. as they battled it out with #2 Wilmington University (Del.) and #4 Chestnut Hill College.
The tournament was set in a Mega Match format, where the green-and-gold needed to secure two of the three contests to advance: Traditional (team scoring), Baker, and if necessary, the best-of-seven Baker series. The Golden Falcons started the weekend versus Wilmington University (Del.) in a #2 vs. #3 seed match.
During the first meeting with the Wildcats, the Golden Falcons dropped in the traditional round, 831-961, with
Sandra Hornor (Brick, N.J.) leading the charge with a 191. Following right behind was
Samantha Slocum (Coram, N.Y.) with a 173 and
Ashley Ferrara (Beachwood, N.J.) with a 166. In order for the Golden Falcons to remain afloat, they needed to secure the win in the Baker total pin fall match in which they were able to even the series, 1-1, when they secured the 987-875 victory.
With the force of the best-of-seven Bakers match, the Golden Falcons battled through six games with their highest performance being in the fourth, 265-157, but came up short with the Wildcats toppling Felician, 2-4.
The next day the Golden Falcons were next up to face #4 seed, Chestnut Hill College. The squad was swift in securing the Traditional round win, 954-832, with Hornor leading the charge with her 243 and
Madelyn Weston (Hatboro, P.A.) right behind with a 186. The Griffins tied it up and forced a best-of-seven after securing the Bakers total pin fall match, 911-962. Through the best of seven, Felician won the first two games and then sealed the overall Mega Match victory by the fifth for the 4-1 victory.
And once again, the Golden Falcons were face-to-face with the Wildcats, both facing elimination, to see who is going to advance into the final round of the tournament. With no best-of-seven needed, the Wildcats toppled the Golden Falcons 0-2 when the opposer recorded the 893-924 traditional series and the 956-974 Bakers to wrap up the green-and-gold's CACC tournament.
Hornor was given an All-Tournament Team selection for her performance throughout the weekend as she averaged 209.3 through three games with her best outing being 243 versus the Griffins.
