Dennis Huzey - Contributor

Officially, Dennis Huzey’s title during his 21 years of employment at Felician College/University was Assistant Professor of Marketing and Management. But for the Golden Falcons’ student-athletes and coaches, he was often so much more.

Throughout his career in higher education, Huzey was an outspoken advocate for college athletics and the benefits thereof. His office was often one of the first stops for Felician coaches giving a campus tour to prospective student-athletes. Huzey could be depended upon to provide a rosy outlook of Felician, its business department, and its athletics programs.

To several generations of Golden Falcons, however, Huzey will be remembered simply as “the voice.” For nearly his entire stay at Felician, he served as a volunteer public address announcer for several Felician sports. He never expected, asked for, nor accepted payment for this role, and often used his own equipment.

Huzey arrived at Felician in 2000-01 during the formative years of the intercollegiate athletics program. His efforts professionalized the gameday atmosphere of that era and several to follow, and his distinctive cadence and phraseology (“Ladies and gentlemen, it is my pleasure to introduce to you...”) are still recalled with a smile by the current staff. In May 2022, the Athletics Department presented Huzey with the inaugural Russ Wiebe Award for service to athletics by a non-department member.

Huzey is the fifth individual to enter the Felician Athletics Hall of Fame in the Contributor category, following Bob Symons, Dr. Russ Wiebe, Dr. Alfredo Castro, and Sr. Theresa Mary Martin. While at Felician he was also the faculty advisor for the American Marketing Association Club and for Students in Free Enterprise, a member of the Course Evaluation and Peer Evaluation Task Forces, and served various roles in Middle States Accreditation Review.

Huzey’s career in higher education spanned 42 years and nine institutions. He has refereed several journal articles and conference proceedings and presentations. In 2014, he was awarded Best Paper in Conference Research by the International Academy of Business and Public Administration Disciplines.

Huzey was a football and baseball student-athlete at St. Joseph Regional High School of Montvale. He possesses an associate of arts degree (1976), a B.S. (1978) and MBA (1980) in marketing and an MBA certificate in management (1983), all from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He has also served as a public address announcer for the New Jersey Stallions and Jersey Riptide professional soccer teams. Huzey lives in New Milford.
