Dr. Alfredo Castro

Dr. Alfredo Castro becomes the third member of the Felician Athletics Hall of Fame to be inducted in the Contributor category.
 
Dr. Castro began his 24th year as a professor of chemistry and natural sciences at Felician in 2018-19, 14 1/2 of them as an associate professor. Shortly after arriving on campus, he became part of the advisory team which was instrumental in starting the Golden Falcons’ athletic program.
 
In the fall of 1998, Dr. Castro took over as Felician’s Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR), and helped oversee the academic aspects of the Golden Falcons’ reclassification from the NAIA to NCAA Division II. He served as the University’s FAR to the NCAA until 2015. During that period, he spent four years as the chair of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference FAR Committee. 
 
Dr. Castro also spent two years as Felician’s Student-Athlete Academic Advisor. For 13 years, he coordinated the University’s 
nominations for the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award by the periodical Diverse Issues In Higher Education, gaining recognition for nearly 100 student-athletes of diverse backgrounds.
 
Dr. Castro holds a bachelor in chemistry from the University of 
Costa Rica (1988), an M.S. in organic chemistry from Clark Atlanta University (1990) and a Ph.D. in chemistry and biochemistry from the University of Delaware (1996). He has served on multiple governance committees and participated in various academic initiatives during his tenure at Felician.
 
Dr. Castro lives in Wantage with his wife, Mary Rose. They have two daughters -- Morgan, who attends Belmont-Abbey College, and Mani-Lai, 16 -- and two sons -- Damien, 7, and Aiden, 6. The family also includes two dogs, three cats and five chickens.
