Standing 6-foot-4 and beginning his college career as a shooting guard, Antoine Obery was an unlikely candidate to be his alma mater’s all-time leading rebounder. But Obery stands alone atop the Felician men’s basketball chart, with 848 boards.
As a sophomore, Obery was an all-conference performer for the 2009-10 Golden Falcons who went 24-7 and captured regular season and tournament Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championships. He averaged 15.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.1 blocks that season.
Obery recorded 32 points, 14 rebounds, and six blocks as Felician erased a 23-point second-half deficit in an overtime victory over Philadelphia University in the semifinals. He followed with a 22-point, 15-rebound, eight-assist, four-steal effort against Goldey-Beacom College in the CACC Championship game.
Three years later, after recovering from a serious knee injury, Obery shot 55 percent from the floor, and posted 18.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per contest as a fifth-year senior. He was voted First Team All-CACC and All-Met and Second Team All-Region. During that campaign he enjoyed a 39-point, 21-rebound game at Goldey-Beacom.
Obery’s career totals in points (1,412), assists (303), steals (118) and field-goal percentage (.509) also rank among Felician’s top five. The Golden Falcons reached the CACC playoffs following three of his four full seasons.
Upon his 2013 graduation from Felician with his B.S. in computer information systems, Obery married his college sweetheart, the former Season Chauvin. At the time of his induction, he was one of the youngest operations managers in the history of Coach USA, the nation’s largest private bus carrier.
Obery is preceded by Sadot Williams ’06 and Devon Young ’11 as men’s basketball players in the Felician Athletics Hall of Fame.
Obery is a five-time all-star in the semi-professional American Basketball Association, and still plays for the New Jersey Express. He briefly served as an assistant coach to his brother, Anthony Obery, at the County College of Morris. He, Season, and their son, Antoine Jr., reside in Dover, N.J.
