While the teams in the early years of Felician men’s soccer
possessed a great deal of offensive firepower, Kwame Telemaque was
among the Golden Falcons’ first superstars on defense.
A native of Pierrefonds, Quebec, Telemaque was the CCAA Player of
the Year and All-Canadian selection in his final season at Dawson
College in Montreal. Meanwhile, he had earned a spot on the U17,
U18, and U19 Canadian national teams.
He then took his talents to Felician. As a freshman in 1999,
Telemaque was named All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference at
center back. He helped the Golden Falcons to the CACC quarterfinals
in their first year in the league.
The following season was historic for both Telemaque and his team.
The Golden Falcons went 15-7-1, setting a school record for wins
that still stands, and won the CACC championship and the NAIA
Region X crown. Telemaque, after repeating as all-CACC and earning
first-team all-region honors, was voted an NAIA Third-Team
All-American. The honor made him the first Golden Falcon in any
sport (and still just one of two) to attain All-America status
above the Honorable-Mention level.
At the end of his sophomore year, Telemaque left Felician to pursue
professional soccer opportunies. He played in five different
countries as a pro, beginning with KAA Gent in Belgium’s
first divison. He last appeared in 2004 for Waterford United of the
Irish Premier League.
Telemaque now resides in Ottawa, Ontario, with his wife, Andrea,
and children Akil and Kaya. He owns his own sports fitness and
consulting company, Total Fit Sports.
Telememaque is also active in coaching. He possesses a national
‘B’ license from the Canadian Soccer Association, and
is the prospects academy coordinator for the Ottawa Fury FC Girls.
He is the head coach of the Fury’s Ontario Player Development
League girls’ squad.
