Devon Young is arguably the top player produced by the Felician men’s basketball program, and it did not take long for him to leave his mark. As a true freshman out of South Brunswick High School in 2007-08, he averaged 16.8 points and 5.6 rebounds and was voted the CACC Rookie of the Year.
A three-year Felician captain, Young went on to become a three-time All-CACC and four-time All-Met Writers swingman, earning second-team All-Region honors as a senior. Young’s 114 games played, 1,958 career points, and 17.2 career points per game are still Felician records.
As a junior, Young captained the most successful squad in program history. The 2009-10 Golden Falcons went 24-7, tied for the regular-season CACC North title, and captured their first conference tournament crown. Young scored a Felician record 39 points in an overtime semifinal win over Philadelphia University, helping the Golden Falcons overcome a 23-point second-half deficit. He was named the tournament Most Valuable Player.
Young graduated in 2011 with a 3.70 grade-point average, collecting a B.S. in accounting. As a senior he was a Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-American, and three times each he was chosen as an Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar and a Winter CACC All-Academic Team member.
Young capped his career by being named Felician’s Senior Male Athlete of the Year and the CACC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the spring of 2011.
Young now resides in Brooklyn, N.Y. He is a youth care worker for Boys Town New York, for which he teaches social skills to at-risk youth. He previously performed similar work at the Carrier Clinic in Montgomery Township, N.J. Young also coaches youth basketball for the New York Knicks organization.
