Holy Family Sweeps Felician's Senior Day Tri-Match

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Holy Family University went 2-0 in a Division II women's volleyball tri-match hosted by Felician College on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium. Holy Family began the day with a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the host Golden Falcons, then earned a 3-2 non-conference win over Queens (N.Y.) College. Queens also defeated Felician, 3-0. The Golden Falcons were celebrating Senior Day, competing in their final home matches of 2011.

In the day's opening match, the Tigers emerged victorious, 25-23, 25-15, 25-11, behind a balanced offense which had a .247 attack percentage and 12 service aces. HFU senior Alyssa Keihl (Pewaukee, WI) turned in a match-high nine kills and eight digs, and teammate Mackenzie Bickes (Orchard Lake, MI) produced 15 assists, seven digs and five aces. Freshman Tonia Ford (Bayonne, NJ) hit .400 with six kills and two blocks for Felician.

Holy Family and Queens met next, and produced an epic five-set affair in which the Tigers emerged victorious 25-27, 36-34, 21-25, 25-17, 15-13. HFU (21-10, 17-1 CACC) saved five set points in the back-and-forth second set, and recovered from a 7-2 Set 5 deficit.

Holy Family received 60 assists and 21 digs from sophomore setter Chelsea Keegan (Bucyrus, OH). Sarah Ambach (Springboro, OH) topped the Tigers with 17 kills. Senior middle Jovana Pavlovic (Belgrade Serbia) posted 32 kills, 13 digs and six blocks to pace the Knights.

Queens (7-17) hit a dominant .468 as a team in its 25-12, 25-9, 25-7 non-conference victory over host Felician to conclude Saturday's events. Knight junior Suzanne Byrne (Richmond, B.C.) had 10 kills and six digs, and Pavlovic registered 10 kills, seven digs and six aces. Alexa Scrivanich (Paramus, NJ) and Anni Polscher (Elmshorn, Germany) each posted five kills for the Golden Falcons (0-27, 0-18 CACC).

Three Felician seniors – Megan Delamater (Paramus, NJ), Ashlee DiSalvo (Batavia, NY) and Massy Sanabria (Passaic, NJ) -- were honored in Senior Day ceremonies prior to the first match of the afternoon. The Golden Falcons conclude the season by traveling to Concordia (N.Y.) College for a 6 p.m. first service on Tuesday.
