JEFFERSONVILLE, Pa. -- The Felician College golf team turned in the second-best 18-hole score in the eight-year history of the program on Monday, carding a 312 at the Griffin Invitational, hosted by Chestnut Hill College at Westover Golf Course.
A school's team score is determined by taking the lowest four rounds from the five-man starting line-up. On Monday, the Golden Falcons put three players in the top 10 of the 34-player field, with all five starters shooting 86 or better on the par-70, 6,206-yard course.
The Golden Falcons finished third out of six complete teams in attendance. Felician was five shots behind champion Goldey-Beacom College, and just two back of runner-up University of the Sciences.
"While it's disappointing to be so close and not win, it's great to be competitive," said Felician head coach Ben DiNallo Jr. "In the past we were just a part of these tournaments; now we know we can be in position to win them."
Freshman Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa.) came up with the lowest round of the season by a Golden Falcon. His 73 was good for third place overall. Senior Barry Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J.) was right behind with a 76, tying for sixth place, and sophomore Christopher Davis (Rockford, Ill.) tied for 10th with a 79.
Junior Chris Zito (South Hackensack, N.J.) took the last scoring spot with an 84 (T-22nd), and freshman Kevin Berdnik (Clifton, N.J.) rounded out the Golden Falcon contingent with an 86 (T-27th).
Monday's medalist was USciences' Ian Byerly with an even-par 70.
The Felician team record for 18 holes is 301, set by Joe Peters (70), Joe Leardo (76), Tsouhnikas (76) and Rob Young (79) in Round 2 of the Adelphi University Tom Pecora Invitational on April 26, 2010.
