Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician College women's soccer team put just four of 17 shots on goal in its 2-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to visiting Wilmington (Del.) University on Saturday evening at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
The loss kept Felician (5-7-1, 3-5-1) in a tie for eighth place in the 13-team CACC with 10 points. The Golden Falcons have three conference games left to play, and the top eight teams at season's end qualify for the league playoffs.
On Saturday, Wilmington (7-6-2, 7-1-1) broke through with the eventual game-winning score fewer than four minutes into the second half. Wildcat senior Brittany Rhodes (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) got free on the right flank, eventually crossing the ball to freshman Chelsea Grace (Palymra, N.J./Palmyra), who finished from close range at 48:41. Senior Vikki Zipf (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) converted a 77th minute penalty kick to complete the scoring.
The Golden Falcons, meanwhile, failed to take advantage of several chances afforded them. On three occasions, they missed high on direct kick opportunities from just outside the penalty area. They also came up empty on six corner kicks.
Both defenses cleared a ball off of their goal line in a scoreless first half. In the sixth minute, Felician senior Emily Gleason (East Hanover, N.J./Morris Catholic) received an interior pass and got off a shot which beat the keeper but was cleared by Zipf. Fewer than six minutes later, Golden Falcon senior defender Jen Jimenez (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) returned the favor, denying a Grace shot that was otherwise ticketed for the back of the net.
Wildcat senior goalkeeper Amanda Walters (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) earned her fourth shutout of the season by making three saves. Senior Allie Couzo (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) stopped two shots for Felician. Golden Falcon junior Alysia Arcona (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown), the CACC shots leader, topped all players in the match with six.
