Felician Quieted By Caldwell, 4-0

Box Score

CALDWELL, N.J. – Caldwell College used four different goal scorers and took advantage of a 24-10 shot advantage in earning a 4-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Felician College on Wednesday afternoon at Caldwell Field.

The loss, combined with Dominican (N.Y.) College's win against Nyack College on Wednesday, dropped Felician (5-8-1, 3-6-1 CACC) into ninth place in the CACC with two league games remaining. The top eight teams at season's end qualify for the conference tournament. The standings can be viewed at http://www.caccathletics.org/sports/wsoc/2012-13/standings.

The Golden Falcons no longer control their own playoff fate. But with 10 points, they could still mathematically catch seventh place Holy Family University (15 points, two games to play) and eighth-place Dominican (13 points, three games left). Tenth place Post University (nine points, two games), Felician's final opponent on Oct. 23, is also in the mix. A team receives three points for a victory and one for a draw.

On Wednesday, Caldwell broke through for the lead 29 minutes, 19 seconds, into the match on a 10-yard shot by freshman Sarina Soriano (San Jose, Calif.). The Cougars (11-3, 8-1) took the 1-0 edge into halftime, then out-shot Felician, 15-4, in the second period. Caldwell junior Rebecca Stinger (Atco, N.J.) scored on a header in the 61st minute, and the hosts tacked on two more tallies in the last nine minutes for the final margin.

Caldwell senior goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) earned the shutout with three saves, and Soriano finished with a goal and an assist. Senior Allie Couzo (Sayrevile, N.J.) stopped four shots for the Golden Falcons, who were led by Emily Gleason (East Hanover, N.J.) and Jordan Farley (Brick, N.J.) with three shots apiece.

Felician hosts Georgian Court University, which sits in a third-place tie with Caldwell, in CACC action on Senior Night on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
