Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Despite posting season highs in service aces and blocks, the Felician College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-2 (16-25, 25-15, 17-25, 25-19, 15-13) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to visiting Bloomfield College on Friday night at Job Gym. Felician junior outside Anni Polscher (Elmshorn, Germany/KGSE) tied a school record with eight aces in the loss.
The setback put a damper on the Golden Falcons' Dig Pink Night for breast cancer awareness. With assistance from Felician's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the volleyball team, adorned in white jerseys with pink names and numbers, sponsored a T-shirt sale and several raffles. All proceeds will be donated to the Side-Out Foundation.
After falling behind two sets to one, Bloomfield (3-14, 2-13 CACC) jumped out to a 16-10 Set 4 lead. The Golden Falcons closed to within 21-19, but aided by a pair of Leila Wooten (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) aces, the Deacons scored the set's final four points.
The tie-breaking set was even on five occasions, the final time at 6-6, before Bloomfield took the lead for good with three consecutive points. Trailing, 13-9, Felician scored the next three points, but could not equalize. Deacon senior Allison Hart (Pagosa Springs, Colo./Pagosa Springs) (25 assists, 12 digs) ended the match 2 hours, 2 minutes after it began with her fifth kill.
Freshman middle Kayla Gallagher (Bloomingburg, N.Y./Pine Bush) accumulated 13 kills and four blocks for Felician (1-18, 1-12), while classmate Olivia Emerson (Sparks, Nev./TMCC) added 11 kills and a season-high five blocks. Felician owned advantages of 9-4 in blocking and 15-12 in aces.
Bloomfield sophomore Deandra Black (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) topped all players on the night with 15 kills.
