SUFFERN, N.Y. -- Felician College golfers Christopher Davis (Rockford, Ill.) and Barry Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J.) each posted 36-hole totals of 158 and tied for 18th place in a 54-player field at the Sixth Annual Charger Challenge, hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College on Sunday and Monday at Spook Rock Golf Course.
As a team, Felician placed seventh out of 10 schools in attendance. However, the Golden Falcons did finish ahead of two fellow members of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
Led by Davis's 76 and an 81 from freshman Kevin Berdnik (Clifton, N.J.), the Golden Falcons posted a team score of 322 on Sunday. They sat in seventh place after Day 1, but were just five strokes out of third.
Senior Barry Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J.), the No. 1 player in the Felician line-up, got hot on Sunday, carding a four-over-par 76 on the 6,894-yard course. However, the Golden Falcons settled for 330 as a team, and their 652 score for the tournament kept them in seventh place by one stroke over the College of Saint Rose.
Berdink tied for 33rd place with 81-86-167, followed closely by freshman Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa.) (T-37th, 83-86-169). Also in the line-up for Felician was sophomore Chris Zito (South Hackensack, N.J.) (51st, 103-95-198).
Felician was fourth out of six CACC schools in attendance, out-shooting Holy Family University (340-332-672) and Chestnut Hill College (344-343-687).
St. Thomas Aquinas College took the team title with 303-300-603, and STAC's Kai Rastetter was the medalist with 73-72-145. Jeff Schaller of runner-up Concordia (N.Y.) College fired the best 18-hole round of the tournament, a 69 on Monday.
