Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Senior defender Jenn Hesse (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) scored her first goal in nearly two years to spark the Felician College women's soccer team to a 3-0 non-conference victory over visiting Queens (N.Y.) College on Tuesday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Queens (7-3-3) is tied for No. 10 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region coaches' poll.
Felician (5-6-1) benefited from a first-half Queens own goal shortly after Hesse struck, and freshman Macki Groves (Millville, N.J./Millville) tallied in the 75th minute to seal the victory. Freshman goalkeeper Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Community) earned her second shutout in three starts this season.
Felician owned a 13-8 shot advantage, including 8-3 in the first half. Sheridan made four saves on the day, preserving the clean sheet with two stops from close range in the middle of period two.
Felician opened the scoring on a corner kick opportunity late in the first half. A low kick from Kristen Toropiw (Hopatcong, N.J./Hopatcong) squeezed through several pairs of legs to Hesse, who buried a shot inside the far post with 9:20 left in the period. Hesse last scored on Nov. 1, 2010, in the Golden Falcons' CACC Tournament first-round loss at Wilmington (Del.) University.
Fewer than two minutes later, Golden Falcon junior Alysia Arcona (Hackettstown, N.J.) crossed a ball into the box. An attempted clear by a Knight defender went backward and just inside the left post for an own goal and a 2-0 lead for the hosts. Felician continued to lead by two until Groves accepted a feed from Emily Gleason (East Hanover, N.J./Morris Catholic) and beat Queens keeper Allison Breakey (Frankford, Ill./Lincoln Way East) 1 on 1 with 15:22 to play.
Breakey finished with six saves.
