Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Nyack College scored in the fourth minute of overtime to earn a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over host Felician College on Tuesday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
On the game-winning play, Nyack senior Stacy Cervantes (Whittier, Calif./La Serna) got free in the middle of the pitch after accepting a through-ball from teammate Kelsey Labas (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial). Before Felician goalkeeper Allie Couzo (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) could come out to meet Cervantes, she launched a high-arcing shot over Couzo's head and into the center of the net. It was the first shot attempt for either side in the extra session.
Both teams had trouble generating serious scoring chances in the early stages of the game. The Warriors (2-2, 2-1 CACC) drew first blood with just one minute, five seconds remaining in the first half, when Cyan Jean-Baptiste (East York, Canada/Leaside) scored in traffic in front of the Felician net.
It took the hosts fewer than four minutes of period two to secure the equalizer. Alysia Arcona (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) sped down the right flank and crossed the ball in the box to Juliet Numfor (Hillsborough, N.J./Stanstead College), who finished with a single touch.
The rest of the period was more openly played, with the teams combining for 15 shots. Both goalkeepers kept the game tied, and the Warriors hit the crossbar in the 80th minute.
Nyack keeper Madeline Barbarino (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by-the-Sea) earned the victory with six saves. Couzo finished with four saves for Felician (2-2, 1-1).
