Box Score NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Felician College women's soccer team scored twice in the first 23 minutes and went on to a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over host Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday afternoon at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex. Felician (3-3, 2-1 CACC) snapped a three-game losing streak.
Golden Falcon junior striker Alysia Arcona (Hackettstown, N.J.) scored two goals from long range and added an assist to solidify her hold on the CACC's scoring lead. Arcona now has seven goals and two assists in six matches in 2012.
Junior Juliet Numfor (Hillsborough, N.J.) put Felician on the scoreboard at the 18:05 mark when she headed Arcona's feed into the net. Fewer than five minutes later, Arcona lined up for a corner kick, and bent it directly into the goal unaided for a 2-0 Golden Falcon advantage.
From that point, the goalkeepers became busy. The teams combined to put 19 of their 33 shots on frame, and the match saw a total of 13 corners attempted. Allie Couzo (Sayreville, N.J.) backed the Felician defense with eight saves for the victory. The only blemish on her sheet came in the 31st minute, when Goldey-Beacom junior Danielle Semenza (Hazle Twp., Pa.) followed a teammate's shot off the crossbar by finishing up in front.
The score remained 2-1 into halftime and through to the 69:04 mark, when Arcona unleashed a perfectly placed blast from 35 yards away inside the far post for the final margin.
The host Lightning (0-5, 0-4) held a slight 18-15 edge in shots (10-9 Felician on goal), while Felician led, 8-5 in corner kicks. Emily Gleason (East Hanover, N.J.) topped the Golden Falcons with four shot attempts. Alyssa Vetrano (Ocean, N.J.) was credited with seven saves for GBC.
