SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Felician College volleyball team won its first set of the season on Sunday afternoon, but could not come back from a two-set deficit in its 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 17-25, 25-21) non-conference loss to Assumption College on Sunday afternoon at Butova Gymnasium. The matched ended Felician's two-day, four-match stay at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by American International College.

Earlier Sunday morning, the Golden Falcons dropped a 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-17) non-conference decision to Georgian Court University.

Against Assumption, freshman setter Susan McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla.) posted 29 assists, four kills and seven digs in guiding the Felician offense to a .213 attack percentage, its best figure of the tournament. Freshman Olivia Emerson (Sparks, Nev.) led all players with 13 kills, and senior Jenna Matesic (Paramus, N.J.) had nine kills and a match-high 18 digs.

After falling behind two sets to none, the Golden Falcons (0-4) jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the third set and held on to extend the match. McKeever, Emerson, and Kayla Gallagher (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) each had three kills in the set. The teams battled to a 17-17 tie in Set 4 before the Greyhounds pulled away for the victory.

Kristin Flatekval (Mahwah, N.J.) paced a balanced Assumption offense with 32 assists and six digs.

In its early match, Felician allowed 14 service aces and was limited to a .076 attack percentage. The Golden Falcons held an early 11-8 Set 3 lead, but the Lions went on a 13-2 run out of a timeout to pull away and seal the match.

Matesic led all players with 10 kills. Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz.) had 13 assists and eight digs for Felician. GCU's Jaslene Lopez (Coamo, P.R.) accumulated 29 assists and five aces.
