Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – In a performance worthy of its lofty national ranking, the American International College women's soccer team earned a 5-0 non-conference victory over visiting Felician College on Saturday afternoon at Abdow Field. AIC (11-1-1) is the No. 8 team in the latest NCAA Division II coaches' poll.
Felician freshman goalkeeper Bjonda Ademi (Wayne, N.J.) made a season-high eight saves, and classmate Carly Brantner (Waldwick, N.J.) cleared another ball off of the goal line, but the Golden Falcons were on the defensive almost constantly. The Yellow Jackets out-shot Felician, 34-1, owned a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks, and were whistled offside on 15 occasions.
AIC led, 3-0, at halftime, and added the exclamation point with goals in the 64th and 68th minutes. Junior forward Sonia Basma (Silver Spring, Md.), the top scorer in the Northeast-10 Conference, picked up three goals and an assist. She opened the scoring with a 20-yard blast just 5:16 into the contest. Alyssa Werbicki (Chicopee, Mass.) and Caroline Boyce (Canterbury, N.H.) each added a goal and an assist for the Yellow Jackets.
Senior forward Alysia Arcona (Hackettstown, N.J.) got off the only shot for Felician (3-7-4), an effort that sailed over the crossbar in the 18th minute.
AIC sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Webber (Bristol, Conn.) did not need to make a save in earning her first shutout of the season.
