Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician College women's soccer team was unable to capitalize on a 23-7 shot advantage on Monday night, dropping a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference decision to visiting Post University at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Sophomore midfielder/forward Macki Groves (Millville, N.J./Millville) scored the Golden Falcon goal.
Felician (4-8-5, 3-4-5 CACC) became the first CACC team to complete its 2013 conference schedule, finishing with 14 points. However, Monday's loss dealt a serious blow to the Golden Falcons' league playoff hopes. While not mathematically eliminated, Felician needs a positive result from three different conference games over the next two days to qualify.
Post (6-9, 4-7) took the lead just three minutes, nine seconds, into Monday's contest. Senior midfielder Danielle Charette (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck) pushed a short pass ahead to teammate Tessa Dunster (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) who finished from the middle of the 18-yard box. Dunster tied for the CACC lead with her ninth goal of the season.
In the 37th minute, an Eagle player was issued a direct red card, forcing the visitors to play with nine field players for the remainder of the game. However, other than one unsuccessful corner kick , Felician was unable to generate a serious offensive opportunity for the balance of the first half.
Post struck again in the 64th minute. Dunster played a low through-ball down the right flank. Freshman Valerie Moore (Bloomfield, Conn./Bloomfield) sprinted to it, took two touches, and launched a perfectly placed 25-yard shot to the upper left of the net.
Felician midfielders JoJo Pisani (Wyckoff, N.J./Hasbrouck Heights) and Erica Evans (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) were credited with assists on Groves' goal, which came with 8:10 left in regulation. The Golden Falcons got off three shots in the time that remained, but two were wide of the frame and the other was blocked by the Eagle defense.
Pisani led all players on the night with six shots. Post senior goalkeeper Grace McConnell (Leeds, England/Royds Specialist Language) was credited with nine saves.
Felician concludes the regular season with a non-league match at Dowling College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
