Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – On her Senior Night, Felician College middle blocker Alexa Scrivanich (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) put down a kill on match point to end her team's come-from-behind 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-7) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium. Sophomore middle Kayla Gallagher (Bloomingburg, N.Y./Pine Bush) had four kills and a block in the decisive fifth set.
Scrivanich bookended the night for Felician (5-14, 5-10 CACC), which moved into a three-way tie for the final two playoff spots from the CACC North Division with four conference matches remaining. Pre-match, as the Golden Falcons' only senior, Scrivanich was the focus of the athletics department's Senior Night ceremony. She then produced three of her nine kills in Set 5, including the victory-clincher, which came one hour, 44 minutes after the first service.
Felician swept the two-match regular-season series from Concordia for the first time since the Clippers joined the CACC in 2009. It marked the first time since 2006 that the Golden Falcons defeated any opponent twice in the same season.
In a defensive-minded match with plenty of long rallies, Felician got off to a hot start. The Golden Falcons took Set 1 and then jumped out to a 6-0 Set 2 lead. Concordia, however, came all the way back to tie the set at 14-14 and eventually earn the two-point win to even the match. The Clippers won seven of the final eight points to capture the third set as well.
The Golden Falcons then mounted their own comeback. After falling behind, 11-5 and 14-10 in Set 4, the hosts recovered to draw even at 16-16. Concordia won the next three points, but, out of a timeout, Felician rebounded to move ahead, 22-20. With the set tied, 22-22, Gallagher put down consecutive kills, setting the stage for Felician to win the set.
With Felician trailing, 4-3, in the deciding set, a Scrivanich kill touched off a 4-0 run for the hosts. After the teams switched sides, the Golden Falcons took full control, turning a one-point lead into a 13-6 advantage. Following a side-out, kills from Gallagher and Scrivanich gave Felician the victory.
Felician came up with a season-high 98 digs, led by 25 from sophomore libero Patrycja Giemza (Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland/Lodz), who added five service aces. Olivia Emerson (Sparks, Nev./Edward C. Reed) had a match-high 23 kills and 11 digs, and junior opposite Emma Reijonen (Joensuu, Finland/Lyseo Joensuum) amassed season highs of 14 kills and 10 digs. Emerson has 52 kills in nine sets against the Clippers this season.
Felician's two setters helped the offense hit .207 for the night, including .341 in the final three sets. Sophomore Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla./North Fort Myers) came up with 38 assists and a career-best 22 digs, and classmate Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz./Perry) turned in 20 assist and 14 digs. Gallagher finished with 12 kills and two blocks.
Concordia (3-13, 3-13) was paced by senior setter Hillary Hoffman (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow), who produced four kills, 49 assists and 19 digs as the Clippers hit .214. Junior outside Leina Braga (Salvador, Brazil/Rotary) was good for 21 kills and 16 digs.
