Chestnut Hill Thwarts Felician's Comeback Attempt

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team put a sudden halt to Felician College's comeback attempt in its 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 26-24) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the host Golden Falcons before an intimate gathering at Job Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Down two sets to none, Felician (2-9, 2-5 CACC) earned a 25-23 victory in Set 3 and led 24-22 in the fourth after a kill by senior middle Alexa Scrivanich (Paramus, N.J./Paramus). But that proved to be the last point of the day for the hosts. Chestnut Hill saved two set points on back-to-back kills by sophomore middle Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area), took the lead on Biro's solo block, and claimed the victory when the Golden Falcons were called for a net violation.

Three Felician players posted double-doubles in defeat. Sophomore Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla./North Fort Myers) amassed a career-high 31 assists to go along with 12 digs, five kills, three blocks and two service aces. Classmate Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz./Perry) picked up 14 assists and 14 digs, while junior Emma Reijonan (Joensuu, Finland/Lyseo Joensuum) added 11 kills and 12 digs.

After combining for a .068 attack percentage in the opening two sets, the Golden Falcons hit .305 in Sets 3 and 4. However, their total for the day of .171 was bested by the .241 figure put up by the Griffins (6-10, 4-3). Junior middle Tonia Ford (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) hit .348 for Felician with a career-best 12 kills, three aces and two blocks.

Freshman setter Emily Drew (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central) ran the CHC offense to the tune of 49 assists and added nine digs. The Griffins received double-doubles from Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) (14 kills, 13 digs) and Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) (12 kills, 19 digs), while Biro hit .609 and finished with 15 kills and four blocks.

Felician sophomore outside Olivia Emerson (Sparks, Nev./Edward C. Reed) led all hitters on the day with 16 kills.
