Box Score ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Felician College won the first two sets, only to see Dominican (N.Y.) College storm back for a 3-2 (24-26, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-13) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over the visiting Golden Falcons on Friday night on the Hennessy Center's Coach Baxter Court. Sophomore middle blocker Kayla Gallagher (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) led Felician with a season-high 19 kills.
The teams entered the night tied for third place in the seven-team CACC North Division. With the loss, Felician (5-15, 5-11 CACC) falls into a three-way tie for fourth, and has three conference matches left to play. The Division's top four squads at season's end will reach the league playoffs.
Both of the matches between Felician and Dominican this season took five sets to decide, with each school winning on its home court. The Golden Falcons also played their second five-setter in three days, and are 2-2 in such matches this season.
After only holding a lead for a combined one point in dropping the third and fourth sets, Felician jumped out to an 11-6 deciding set advantage. A pair of kills by Tori Dexter (Selah, Wash.) touched off a 4-0 spurt for the Chargers, and her service ace would later tie things at 12-12. After a pair of side-outs made it 13-13, Dominican received an assisted block from Randi Garrett (Rockledge, Fla.) and Kayla Dexter (Selah, Wash.), and then pulled out the victory on a kill by McKenzie John (Lafayette, La.). John put down six kills in Set 5.
Felician reached 90+ digs for the second consecutive match, including career highs of 27 from Patrycja Giemza (Dabrowa, Gornicza, Poland) and 25 by Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz.). Shebel also set up 24 assists.
Dominican (6-20, 6-10) racked up advantages of 12-2 in blocking and 14-3 in service aces, but kept the Golden Falcons in the match by committing 14 service errors, seven blocking errors, and seven ball-handling errors. John continued a standout freshman season with 26 kills, 17 digs, four blocks and two aces, while Tori Dexter finished with 19 kills, 17 digs and three aces for the hosts.
In addition to Shebel, the Golden Falcons received double-doubles from sophomores Olivia Emerson (Sparks, Nev.) (14 kills, 11 digs) and Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla.) (21 assists, 16 digs). The match lasted one hour, 50 minutes.
