Box Score WILMINGTON, Del. -- Goldey-Beacom College saved five fourth-set match points and went on to a come-from-behind 3-2 (16-25, 25-18, 17-25, 28-26, 15-11) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over visiting Felician College on Saturday afternoon at the Joseph West Jones Center. The match ended regular-season play for both schools.
Despite the loss, Felician, based on other conference results on Friday and Saturday, qualified for the CACC Tournament for the first time since 2007. The Golden Falcons (6-18, 6-13 CACC) tied for fourth place in the North Division, but won the tiebreaker over Post University by virtue of their 2-0 record agains the Eagles this season.
As the No. 4 seed from the CACC North, the Golden Falcons will take on South top seed Wilmington (Del.) University in first-round playoff action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Newark, Del. Further details will be posted on Monday.
On Saturday, Felician led, two sets to one, and 24-21 in the fourth set. Goldey-Beacom (7-22, 1-18) then received three consecutive kills from senior opposite Kadi McCoy (Dallastown, Pa.) to even the set. Twice more, the Golden Falcons served for the match, but both times the Lightning earned the side-out. Trailing 26-25, GBC won the final three rallies to force a deciding set.
The Lightning never trailed in Set 5, opening up leads of 4-1, 9-4, and 13-7 en route to clinching their first conference win of 2013.
Sophomore outside Olivia Emerson (Sparks, Nev.) hit .442 and paced Felician with 22 kills and nine digs. Kayla Gallagher (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) put down 12 kills, and Emma Reijonen (Joensuu, Finland) added nine kills and 16 digs for the visitors.
McCoy hit .438 with 24 kills, 15 assists and nine digs, in the process becoming GBC's all-time kills leader. Taylor Moyer (Schuykill Haven, Pa.) chipped in with 13 kills and seven blocks.
