RIVERHEAD, N.Y. -- Members of the Felician College men's golf team responded to a lengthy layoff with mixed results during the Ninth Annual Peter King Memorial on Friday and Saturday, hosted by Dowling College at Long Island National Golf Course.
Having been snowed out of a tournament on March 26, the Golden Falcons were competing for the first time in 19 days. Felician shot 341 and 339 to place 13th in the team standings with 680, finishing 26 shots behind 12th-place Dominican (N.Y.) College.
Freshman Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa.) was the only Felician starter to place among the top half of the field. Geesey posted his best score of the season in a 36-hole even, firing a seven-over-par 78 on Friday before following up with 79 on Saturday for a 157. He was among seven golfers who tied for 26th place out of 66 entrants.
Junior Chris Zito (South Hackensack, N.J.) shot 86 and 84, both better than his season average of 90.6. Starting in the No 4 position, he finished second on the Golden Falcons. In a highly competitive field, however, Zito's 170 was only good for 60th place in the tournament.
Also in the Golden Falcon line-up were senior Barry Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J.) (84-89-173, 61st), freshman Kevin Berdnik (Clifton, N.J.) (93-87-180, 63rd), and senior Anthony Bizien (118-133-251, 64th).
Bentley University and the University of Massachusetts Lowell tied for the tournament championship with 36-hole totals of 600 (+32). Shane Dobesh of Roberts Wesleyan College and Sylvain Debais of UMass Lowell shared medalist honors at 143 (+1), with Dobesh winning a playoff between the pair.
Felician will next compete at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship. The Golden Falcons will look to better their 10th-place result in 2012.
