Box Score 2 FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Felician College women's volleyball team lost both ends of its non-conference tri-match hosted by Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday at Fitzgerald Gymnasium. In its morning match, Felician went down to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-17) to the host Knights, before falling to Saint Anselm College, 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-13, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon.
Against Queens, the Golden Falcons (0-4) never led in the opening set, failing to recover from a 10-3 deficit. A Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz.) service ace brought Felician to within 15-13 in Set 2 before the Knights reeled off seven consecutive points to pull away. The visitors came back from a seven-point Set 3 deficit to get as close as 16-14, but again, Queens had the answer, scoring nine of the match's final 12 points. A kill by Knight sophomore Arielle DiCocco (Blue Point, N.Y.) ended the match 64 minutes after the first service.
Queens put down 14 aces and held the Golden Falcons to a negative attack percentage. The Knights also out-blocked Felician, 7-2. Queens sophomore outside Else Buchmiller (Sacramento, Calif.) led all players with 10 kills and added seven digs and three blocks.
Sophomore outside Olivia Emerson (Sparks, Nev.) finished with nine kills to lead Felician. Shebel added nine assists, six digs and four aces, and sophomore libero Patrycja Giemza (Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland) picked up 13 digs.
After Set 1 against Saint Anselm was tied 14 times, Felician squeaked out a 25-23 victory by scoring the final three points, including a kill by Emerson on set point. The Golden Falcons' lead was short-lived, however, as the Hawks hit .406 and .391, respectively, in taking Sets 2 and 3.
The fourth set was even at 14-14 before three consecutive Felician attack errors gave Saint Anselm the lead for good. Ahead 18-15, the Hawks posted five points in a row, and shortly thereafter, earned the victory on consecutive kills from junior middle Melissa Ouellet (Salem, N.H.)
Emerson accumulated Felician's first double-double of the season, with 10 kills and 12 digs in a losing cause. Giemza amassed 16 digs, and the Golden Falcons received four kills, 13 assists, six digs and two aces from sophomore setter Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla.).
