Box Score BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore outside hitter Olivia Emerson (Sparks, Nev.) set a Felician College single-match record with 29 kills as the Golden Falcons defeated host Concordia (N.Y.) College, 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball action Wednesday evening at the Meyer Athletic Center.
With the win, Felician (2-6, 2-2 CACC) snapped a road losing streak of 30 matches. The Golden Falcons' last triumph away from Rutherford had come in five sets at Bloomfield College on Oct. 10, 2009.
Emerson's record-setting 29th kill came on match point, allowing the Golden Falcons to secure Set 4 by a 25-21 margin. She hit .270 for the night and added nine digs. The previous Felician mark of 28 kills was established by Amber Doran, also in four sets, on Oct. 17, 2009 at home against Chestnut Hill College.
Felician produced a season high with a team attack percentage of .267. Junior Emma Reijonan (Joensuu, Finland) hit .412 with seven kills and five blocks, and senior Alexa Scrivanich (Paramus, N.J.) totaled six kills and a season-high four blocks.
The Golden Falcons never trailed in earning the first-set victory, but Concordia (0-3, 0-3) took second-set leads of 15-10 and 19-13 en route to evening the match. Set 3 was tied on 10 occasions, the final time at 15-15, before Felician took advantage of Clipper miscues to reel off six consecutive points.
Felician led, 16-10, in Set 4, then held on for the 3-1 victory.
Both of the Golden Falcon setters had productive evenings. Sophomore Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz.) amassed a season high with 30 assists and added nine digs. Classmate Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla.) enjoyed a double-double with six kills, 17 assists, and 10 digs.
Junior Leina Braga (Salvador, Brazil) topped Concordia with 12 kills and added five digs.
