Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens (N.Y.) College women's soccer team scored six minutes, 27 seconds into the first overtime period to earn a 1-0 non-conference victory over visiting Felician College on Thursday afternoon at Knights Field.
Felician (1-4-2) has seen its last six matches be decided by one goal or fewer. Three of its last four contests have gone to overtime.
On Thursday, Queens (5-3) out-shot the Golden Falcons, 4-0, in the extra session. The first three attempts were saves by Felician sophomore goalkeeper Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.). But the Knights kept attacking.
In the 97th minute, sophomore defender Monica Lupo (Centereach, N.Y.) lifted a pass across the penalty area, finding charging teammate Kristina Gabrielsen (Flushing, N.Y.). Gabrielsen headed the ball back across the goal mouth and past Sheridan to end the match.
Offensive opportunities were limited for the visitors. Felician sophomore midfielder Macki Groves (Millville, N.J.) finished off a counter-attack by getting a shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but Queens keeper Mersina Onesto (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) was able to move to her left and make the save. The Golden Falcons were out-shot, 14-1, on the day, and could not generate a corner kick chance.
Sheridan finished with six saves.
